The Goon Squad

“The reason we’re easily abused,” Steve told me at lunch, “is because we’re not organized into a cohesive, threatening whole.”

“What are you talking about?” I asked him.

“We need a Goon Squad,” he said. “If we formed a Goon Squad, we could terrorize this school.”

“A bunch of ding-dongs are not going to terrorize anything, no matter how threatening a name they have,” I said.

“Maybe so,” said Steve, “but regardless, I hereby seize the title of Generalisimo.”

“I’ll be the Victimizer, then,” I said.

Adam came by and sat down. “What are you guys talking about?”

“We’re assembling a Goon Squad,” I told him. “You can be in it. Pick a title.”

“I’d like to be Activities Coordinator,” he said. “Just because we’re going to strike terror into the hearts of our classmates doesn’t mean we shouldn’t have a good time. Since I have access to a car, this makes me uniquely qualified.”

“You’re in,” I said.

“So how, exactly, are we going to strike all this terror into all these hearts?” I asked.

“Well,” said Steve, “our first order of business should be that no one finds out we’re the Goon Squad. If word gets out, we’re dead for sure.”

“Ah yes,” I said. “Nothing says ‘terror’ like a complete unawareness of terror.”

“No reason to single ourselves out any further,” he said.

“So, a movie this weekend?” queried the Activities Coordinator.
